We have 14,000 hours in school to grow a child.
How can we cultivate each unique person during this time?

  • Leading Change Through Hope, Optimism, and Connection

    The 14000hours Catalyst Program

We live in confusing times. Certainty and order are gone. The constant swirl of ideas, technologies, crises, and change can make it feel as though we are living within one of the storms that now batter our cities.

But from the chaos comes a streak of optimism that should empower each of us to bring our best selves forward. It is an old saying that is truer today than at any point in history: Decisions are made by those who show up.

This is why we created the 14000hours Catalyst program.

Honing Our Craft and Celebrating the Artistry of Educators

We believe that education—including raising, mentoring, and teaching our kids—is an art. Like all good artists, we seek to hone our craft. The best schools inspire, challenge, and help each child thrive. We've seen amazing schools and met incredible teachers, parents, and administrators across the country. Unfortunately, too many of us are burning out and losing hope because we are solving complex problems alone. And too often, we are losing the core essence of the artform that is teaching, because we work too hard at staying passionate, having autonomy, feeling respected, and maintaining motivation—all ingredients to our success as professionals.

Building a Peer to Peer Network and Collaborating Across Communities

As parents and educators, we want the best for the children in our lives. We know the importance of connection to people, ideas, and resources for children, and we also see the value for the adults who work with them. By working together, across geography and roles, we can learn from each other, support one another, and build thriving learning communities. There are thousands of people and organizations rethinking the way we educate students, but because many of these programs, people, and schools operate independently of one another, their impact has been largely local, and on a small scale. What's missing is the mechanism for creating systemic change.

  • Changing the Story of School

14000hours is building a movement to transform education. We seek to move beyond state and national policies to improve educational outcomes. We don't focus on test scores, grades, or the latest buzzwords. Instead, we are interested in you—the students, parents, educators, and others who are ready to roll up your sleeves and work with, learn from, and mentor others to change schools in America. We bring together diverse perspectives to work together in actionable and inspirational ways.

  • "We do not need magic to transform our world.

We carry all of the power we need inside ourselves already."

    —J.K. Rowling
